Fake invoice racket busted, one arrested

On January 12, 2023, the Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST), Bhiwandi Commissionerate in Mumbai Zone, busted a fake invoice racket involving the issuance of invoices worth Rs 164 crore and the receipt/passing on of Input Tax Credit (ITC) worth Rs 17 crore.

 

Deepak Turkar, the alleged syndicate's kingpin, was apprehended. "The anti-evasion wing of the CGST Bhiwandi Commissionerate was investigating a fake company, Raj Enterprises, whose suppliers and recipients were also discovered to be non-existent," an officer said. These firms established a chain of obtaining and passing on fraudulent ITC."

 

According to officers, the investigation revealed that the accused was involved in establishing and managing the firm by forging documents belonging to people from low-income families.
